An appeal to you …
If you are an alumni of the club, or know someone who was, then I’m sure you are familiar with how OUFC plays a significant role in its member’s lives whilst they are here at Oxford.
As a club we are made of two integral parts, a fantastic and incredibly successful beginners course which introduces over 100 students per year to fencing, and our team fencers who fight hard to dominate inter-university leagues and championships and crush Cambridge at our annual varsity match.
Running such a club requires a sizeable effort from our committee members who volunteer hours every week to ensure facilities and transport are booked, equipment works, and everything runs smoothly.
There is also a way that you can help! Fencing as you may know is an expensive sport, and so donations large and small go along way in helping us provide a safe and enjoyable experience for all of our members.
As a club, we would like to extend a heartfelt thank you in advance.
Where your money goes
Donations to the club help support us in two ways…
Firstly, OUFC runs one of the largest beginner’s courses in the country meaning the kit which we have available for beginners (whites, masks, blades etc) undergoes intense usage, and with some kit being up to 10 years old we know that eventually equipment needs to be replaced to ensure a safe environment for the next generation of fencers at Oxford.
Secondly, as a club we want to support our blues athletes with the best coaching we can provide, but without having inaccessible lesson prices so that fencers from all backgrounds can push the limits of the sport. In this vain, the club aims to subsidise lessons by covering facilities fees and coach transportation fees. In addition to this, we want to secure the future of the Varsity match, keeping it in its historic home of The Oxford Examination Schools even as venue costs rise, for future members of OUFC. The competition and its setting is part of OUFC history and we want to support this in future.
