FAQs

  • An OUS ID (Oxford University Sport ID) is the account you need in order to access sports facilities, and purchase memberships, at the university.

Students and staff have an OUS ID automatically created for them upon joining the university, even if you are unaware that this account has been created for you. If you are a student or staff member then please see the FAQ section detailing how OU members can purchase a membership.

Community members are able to create an OUS ID so that they can join clubs and use the facilities owned by the university (eg Iffley Roads Sports Centre). If you have had a membership with us before then you already have an OUS ID. If you are new to university sports as a community member (even if you were previously a student) you will need to create an OUS ID. Instructions on how to sign up as a community member can be found in the Non-OU / Community FAQ section below.

  • If you are a OU member (student or staff) then you will have a pre-made account with the university sports department - you may not be aware that this account exists.

    1. Click on the purchase membership link on our website, this will take you to the OU sports membership portal

    2. Select the button "Yes, I have a Email Address and Password"

    3. Click the button "Forgotten your password?" and enter you university email

    4. You should then receive an email with you OUS ID number, and the ability to change your password

    5. Use this password and your university email to log onto the OU sport membership portal

    6. Select the option "Sign up for a membership"

    7. Select "OU fencing" and then the appropriate membership you wish to buy

An important note about this system is that next to the membership price it lists all memberships as "per 12 months". This is incorrect, the duration of a membership is listed at the end of the description.

The information listed on our website regarding memberships is correct, so if you find any discrepancies, or have any problems purchasing a membership, please contact secretary.oufc@gmail.com

  • Instructions here will vary depending on if you have already set up an OUS ID (ie. have previously had a membership which has given you access to Iffley Roads Sports Centre). Please pay close attention to which set of instructions (below) which you follow.

As a community member, if you try to create a new email account after clicking the button on our website you will not be able to complete a purchase as this requires a valid university SSO.

  • A termly membership gives you access to either the beginners or experienced sessions. The skill level of the beginner and experienced groups is significantly different, and so if you are unsure which group is best for you please contact secretary.oufc@gmail.com

  • Outside of term time we offer free sparring sessions to members. Beginners are able to attend these sessions, however you MUST check with the beginners coach (Lucas) to see whether he believes you have the skills to fence in a non-supervised environment. OUFC does not offer coached sessions (groups or private) during the vacation.

  • Beginners are able to attend all whole club sessions (including free sparring and group coached sessions) alongside the specific coached sessions run by the beginners coach. However, we do advise that you gain a firm skill base before attending the whole club sessions.

  • Yes! club kit is available for all members for use while at the club (it is not allowed to be removed from the club facilities), however we would recommend, especially for experienced fencers, that bring your own kit if you have the means

  • Unfortunately not! We do apologise about this, however our club insurance only covers us for 18+ members. If you are a student and will be turning 18 during your time at university, please contact the secretary (secretary.oufc@gmail.com) so we can work out a plan for you to be able to fence at OUFC!
