President’s Welcome
As a member of OUFC, you will be joining one of Britain’s oldest and most successful fencing clubs, founded in 1891. Our specialised coaching in all three weapons — foil, épée and sabre — is designed to cater to all abilities. We offer group classes in footwork and blade work, and our coaches are available for private tuition to help you enhance your skills and technical precision. Club membership is available to all Oxford University students and staff, as well as community members over the age of 18. Allow me to be the first to welcome you to OUFC. If you have any questions, queries or suggestions, please feel free to contact me or any other committee member by email or at training. We are committed to fostering an inclusive, safe and supportive environment where anyone at any level of fencing experience can develop.
Yu Ming Lee
OUFC President 2024-25
Competitions
OUFC provides opportunities for competitive fencers to compete both individually and as part of our First and Seconds Teams — known as the ‘Blues’ and the ‘Assassins’. Over the last few years, the Club has been home to inter-University BUCS competition champions and has achieved incredibly strong results nationally and internationally. The highlight of our season is the annual Varsity match against Cambridge, the 117th event of which will be hosted in Oxford in March 2025.
Beginners
OUFC has a strong beginners’ foil program run by a certified coach and volunteers for anyone wishing to fence for the first time or returning after an extended break. Beginners will be able to showcase their skills at the end of the year in our annual Novice Varsity.
Socials
Outside of training, our social secretaries this year have worked hard to put together a jam-packed social calendar, including bar nights and crew dates, along with our big annual events such as Christmas Dinner, Varsity Dinner, Old Blues, and Novice Varsity dinner.
“Fencing is a game of living chess, a match where reflexes only work in combination with intent, and mind and body must work together at every moment.”
